Artist: various
Album: Turkish Freakout 2: Psych-Folk 1970-1978
Released: 2011

Turkey is often referred to as the meeting point between East and West, a statement verified by this selection of choice Turkish grooves. The western rock, psych, funk and jazz influences that began to be incorporated into traditional Turkish sounds during the late 60s and 70s can be heard here, as the Anadolu pop sound of Turkeyma balanced these new elements with the complex sounds and rhythms developed over many years. All tracks are referenced from their original 7 inch releases, painstakingly tracked down from various sources in and around Istanbul. The marriage of these styles is original, captivating and bound to freak you out.

Various Artists (1998) -Psychedelia at Abbey Road

Artist: various
Album: Psychedelia at Abbey Road
Released: 1998
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 166 MB

A 22-track single CD seems a bit paltry given the scope of the title -- except, of course, that the 1969 cutoff date here puts the material from Harvest (a label started late that year and containing the lion's share of EMI psychedelia) out of reach. Of course, there are no Beatles tracks and, likewise, no Pink Floyd here, but we do get cuts by the Hollies, Donovan, Tomorrow, the Fingers, Focus 3, the Tales of Justine, Simon Dupree & the Big Sound, the Pretty Things, the Aquarian Age, the Koobas, the Nocturnes, Locomotive, the Gods, Mandrake Paddlesteamer, Mark Wirtz, and Syd Barrett. Most of this stuff, apart from "Sunshine Superman," "My White Bicycle," and "King Midas in Reverse," isn't exactly routine material, and two tracks -- "Delighted to See You" by the N'Betweens and "Why" by Tomorrow -- are previously unissued. The latter, a cover of the Byrds' song, features a tour de force guitar break by future Yes member Steve Howe. Just as revelatory is "Monday Morning," a 1967 single by the largely forgotten the Tales of Justine, featuring David Daltrey, with arrangement and production by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, respectively. Everything on the album has been remastered in 24-bit digital sound, and the long version of Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" has been remixed, bringing out extraordinary detail in the percussion section, from the choppy rhythm guitars and harpsichord down to the exceptionally busy drumming. The annotation by Brian Hogg is detailed without going overboard on trivia, and the entire collection turns out to be great fun.~ Bruce Eder.

Dex Romweber Duo (2011) -Is That You In The Blue?

Artist: Dex Romweber Duo
Album: Is That You In The Blue?
Released: 2011
Quality: mp3 CBR 160
Size: 47 MB

" Dex Romweber is nothing less than an icon of the American music underground. Pioneering the template for the stripped to the essentials guitar/drums duo format in the world famous psycho-surf-rockabilly-garage-punk combo Flat Duo Jets, so often emulated, so rarely duplicated, Dex continues his resurgence with the new album Is That You In The Blue? With sister Sara on drums, the Dex Romweber Duo is a potent combo that’ll get your leg twitching with the beat and your heart racing, and sometimes breaking with the feral excitement of music.

With a mix of originals and obscure nuggets from rock and roll’s dusky back closets, the DRD romps through the sweaty cinder block studios of Memphis of the 50’s, channels street corners on the wrong side of town with existential blues and instrumentals that’d find a home in a Tarantino spy flick." ~musicdirect.com

Various Artists (2007) -It Came From The Garage: Nuggets From Southern California

Artist: various
Album: It Came From The Garage! Nuggets From Southern California
Released: 2007
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 149 MB

Jack and Bill Wenzel were brothers who owned a music shop in Downey, CA, and between selling gear to up-and-coming bands and records to teenagers digging the latest sounds, they were in a position to know what the kids wanted to hear, and in 1962 they founded the Downey Records label to put promising acts on wax. It Came from the Garage! Nuggets from Southern California is Big Beat's third collection of goodies from the Downey archives, featuring 24 tunes from West Coast rock bands, and while the title might lead some to expect a nonstop blast of paisley and fuzz, this set is more diverse than that. The horn-fueled blast of the Barracudas suggests the influence of R&B-leaning instrumental rockers, Pat & the Californians were a surf act that took a left turn into the same place where the Surfaris ended up on "Be Billy," Johnny MacRae's "Penicillin" could have come from pen of Nervous Norvus' VD-infected brother, and "The Frog" from Sir Frog & the Toads is one of the more memorable dance crazes to fail to grab the fancy of America's youth. But if you're looking for guitar-fueled pre-psych eccentricity, there's plenty of that here from the likes of the Sunday Group ("Edge of Nowhere"), The Last Word ("Sleepy Hollow"), Craig & Michael ("Drifty") ESP Limited ("Tell Me"), and the New Breed ("The Words Ring Back"), while "These Ironic Days" finds the Barracudas making a game stab at folk-rock and Bud & Kathy's "Hang It Out to Dry" is a rare example of sexually integrated high-voltage garage punk. It Came from the Garage! boasts some solid lesser-known sides from genuine teenage rockers, and if a few garage purists may quibble at the results, it's 57 minutes of solid listening for fans of second-era rock.~ Mark Deming, allmusic.com

Esmerelda Strange -2 albums

Artist: Esmerelda Strange
Album: Introducing / Strange Encounters
Released: 2005 / 2007
Quality: mp3 VBR ~ 200 / CBR 160
Size: 105 MB

Ms. Strange would describe herself as a punk rock band, but her musical influences and the resulting product contain elements of urban folk, cumbia, circus music, Norteno/ranchero, and an Eastern European gypsy sound. She sings both in English and Spanish. She is known for her saucy sense of humor and salty lyrics. Her music has been described as "acoustic electro-clash goes to the punk rock circus in Mexico." ©

Tame Impala (2010) -Innerspeaker

Artist: Tame Impala
Album: Innerspeaker
Released: 2010
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 126 MB

Innerspeaker is a psychedelia-heavy outing that toys with paisley pop, stoner vibes, and an expansive array of swirling guitars.
On first listen, Innerspeaker provides a lot of dots to connect: There are patches of late-60s American psychedelia, buzzy Motor City riffage, and decades of British pop, ranging from the pastoral pop of the Kinks to the vivid expansiveness of the Verve to the narcotic warmth of the Stone Roses. Frontman Kevin Parker shares an eerie vocal similarity with John Lennon, both in tone and in the way he allows his voice to soar with each melodic turn or rhythmic surge. Though most of the album is a little restrained lyrically, Parker's rapturous phrasing conveys the meaning. Mixed by Flaming Lips collaborator Dave Fridmann, each component is here is set on an even plane, allowing bass lines and delay-swept guitar bursts to melt into one another, cultivating a uniform feel that's vintage, far-out, and irrepressibly cool.

As critics alternate between “more real than the real thing” (René Malines, “Virus de Blues”) and “all of this punk rock blues experimentation has finally been perfected” (Eric Gebhardt, “Blues In London”), Bullfrog Brown feel equally at home backing Mississippi blues legends such as Honeyboy Edwards and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sweden’s Deltahead at alt.blues events. …Bullfrog Brown stand as the best-known Estonian act on the blues scene.©

Artist: Horacio Franco & Victor Flores
Albums: Del Medioevo Al Danzón
Release date: 2002
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 113 MB

The sweet sound of the recorder and the (sometimes) ungainly ones of the double bass invite us into this journey that will take us from austere Medieval churches up to the steamy, sweaty dance halls where danzón (a popular dance, invented in Cuba 100 years ago) is paid tribute. Along the way, we will also pass throough genteel Baroque chambers, where courtly dances are executed, and we will also be privy to the enjoyment of a panorama of music’s finest moments, all interpreted by two prodigious performers. ~ from the liner notes

Sick Sick Sinners (2008 / 2011) -Road Of Sin / Hospital Hell

Artist: Sick Sick Sinners
Album: Road Of Sin / Hospital Hell
Released: 2008 / 2011
Quality: mp3 CBR 320 / 256
Size: 141 MB

The Sick Sick Sinners are a psychobilly trio composed of Vlad, Mutant Cox and Magrão from Curitiba, Brazil. The trio was born out of a few rehearsals at Mutant Cox's house in 2005. Around that time Cox discovered he was stuck playing the slap bass instead of the guitar as he originally planned. Vlad and Cox used to play together with "Os Cervejas" and then "Os Catalépticos". Duma came to play drums and together they recorded their first demo "We are the Sick Sick Sinners" which would eventually help spread their name beyond Brazil.
