From the late 1950s through the early 1960s, Connie Francis, born Constance Franconero, was one of the most popular female singers in America with hits including "Who's Sorry Now?", "Stupid Cupid", and "Everybody's Somebody's Fool". In 1960, she debuted in the youth-oriented film Where the Boys Are, the title song providing her with another hit. She appeared in three similar films through 1965. In 1984 Francis released her autobiography, Who's Sorry Now, wherein she candidly discusses her career ups and downs and reveals the details of her emotional despondence following her brother's murder and her own vicious rape in 1974. Connie Francis continued to perform on concert tours even into the early 1990s. ~ Sandra Brennan, www.answers.com.

Baby Grandmothers (1967) -Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out

Artist: Baby Grandmothers
Album: Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out
Recorded: 30.09.1967
Released: 2007
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 75 MB

Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power-trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground-scene in 1967. Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought after pieces of vinyl from the era. Baby Grandmothers were formed out of the legendary R&B / beat band T-Boones in the summer of 1967. T-Boones are probably best known for their “At the club/King of the Orient” single which is one of the best, and most collectable, out of the Swedish garage beat-era. Guitar-wiz Kenny Håkansson joined the band in 1965 and with the group down to a trio they drifted into the psychedelic sounds of the time and in August 1967 released the single “I Want You”, which definitely was the first hard-rock recording ever made in Sweden. The band was then re-christened Baby Grandmothers by the co-founder of the newly opened psychedelic club Filips, for which he needed a house-band. Filips was the legendary breeding ground for bands such as Hansson & Karlsson, Pärson Sound, as well as orgiastic all night jams with foreign luminaries such as Jimi Hendrix and the Mothers of Invention. Baby Grandmothers also supported Jimi Henrix on his Swedish tour in 1968 and then turned into Mecki Mark Men, who became the first Swedish rock band to tour the US. Founding member Kenny Håkansson went on to form the highly influential Kebnekajse, who created the Swedish electric folk psych sound. This unique collection brings live-recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Painstakingly collected and researched by Dungen’s guitarist Reine Fiske. ©

All tracks are previously unreleased. Recorded at the Filips café, Stockholm, September 30th, 1967.

It also has some good liner notes giving some background to the band as well as photos.
All the tracks were recorded between October 1967 and March 1968.

Brown Bird (2006) -Tautology

Artist: Brown Bird
Album: Tautology
Released: 2006
Quality: mp3 CBR 192
Size: 48 MB

«David Lamb has been playing music under the name Brown Bird since 2003. Beginning in Seattle as a quiet, introspective songwriter, Lamb has since toured across the country, experiencing life changes and musical revelations, and come to settle, for now, in Rhode Island. The group draws influences from outlaw country, early American folk, blues, roots rock, Eastern European and Gypsy music, creating a sound described as both familiar and stunningly original. Brown Bird writes songs with a tendency towards the dark side, bringing harmonized voices, haunting lyrics and diverse rhythm and instrumentation into surging waves that often swell into high-spirited, foot-stomping madness.» (с)

Swami Lateplate (2007) -Doom Jazz

Artist: Swami Lateplate
Album: Doom Jazz
Released: 2007
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 127 MB

«Although Jamie Saft is best known as a jazz pianist, especially for his work with various Masada projects, he's a rocker at heart who lists ZZ Top among his favorite bands. Swami LatePlate—his duo with drummer Bobby Previte—seeks to a degree to cross the divide. In one sense a piano trio, with Saft doubling on electric bass, the project borrows as much from heavy rock sensibilities. Their debut album and the first on Saft's new label Veal, falls closer to the jazz side, but the title indicates the process that got them there.
Using doom—a slow, foreboding style of heavy metal—as a template, the duo crafts a set of songs that creeps along powerfully. The themes are simple, generally carried by subdued bass lines and ornamented by the piano like salt on a glacier. What jumps out most is Previte's drumming. Every cymbal vibration and snare snap leaps to the foreground and, with rare exception, decays before the next strike, as much a testament to Previte's assured playing as Saft's engineering. The sound throughout is bright and super present.» ~Kurt Gottschalk, All About Jazz

Kaizers Orchestra (2006) -Live at Vega

Artist: Kaizers Orchestra
Album: Live at Vega
Released: 2006
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 254 MB

Live at Vega is a two-disc live album released by Norwegian alternative rock group Kaizers Orchestra, on March 6, 2006. It features their recorded concert performance at Vega, a concert hall in Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 6, 2005. It was originally meant to be released alongside the DVD recording of the same concert, Viva La Vega, but the release of the DVD was delayed until later that year. The inside information reads:

Who would have thought that a rattling, rampaging, Norwegian singing orchestra would have the crowds go crazy at Vega in Copenhagen one October evening in 2005? Probably the same people who would bet their whole record collection that thousands of Germans, Swiss and Spanish would one day holler along to songs in a language they did not understand, dance the "Ompa", and shout "Hallelujah" to six saviours in Swedish suits playing gypsy music from Norway.
Live at Vega is proof that anything is possible; that a spastic, foreign-sounding orchestra from tiny Norway can become one of the world’s greatest live bands. The band that lives up to it’s own slogan: "Kontroll på Kontinentet", Rule the Continent, That band is Kaizers Orchestra.
The grand "Maestro Tour 05" saw Kaizers Orchestra playing 65 concerts throughout ten countries over a period of three months. These CDs gives you the entire 30th concert, from one of the best concert venues in Europe. (с)

The Troggs (1966) -From Nowhere... The Troggs [2003 re-release]

Artist: The Troggs
Album: From Nowhere… The Troggs
Released: 2003 (original release 1966)
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 112 MB

The Troggs are widely seen as a highly influential band whose sound was one inspiration for garage rock and punk rock. For example, the Troggs influenced artists such as Iggy Pop, and the early version of British pop-punk pioneers Buzzcocks featured I Can't Control Myself in their live repertoire. The Ramones are also amongst punk bands who cited the Troggs as an influence. The MC5 covered "I Want You" at their live shows and recorded the song for the album Kick Out the Jams, although they renamed it "I Want You Right Now".
The Jimi Hendrix Experience famously covered "Wild Thing" during their appearance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, introducing it as the British/American joint "national anthem", and climaxing with Hendrix burning his guitar. (с)

Imelda May (2008) -Love Tattoo

Artist: Imelda May
Album: Love Tattoo
Released: 2008
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 94 MB

Love Tattoo, her sophomore album, is particularly strong. It’s full of catchy, rockabilly songs that mesh her sultry voice with, in particular, a throbbing (upright) bassline. The two singles have names sound retro from the 1950s: “Johnny Got a Boom Boom” and “Big, Bad Handsome Man”. The former is more upbeat while the latter is drawn out and quite seductive.

Imelda May (2007) -No Turning Back

Artist: Imelda May
Album: No Turning Back
Released: 2007
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 93 MB

Her first album was actually called No Turning Back, which was released originally in 2005 under the name Imelda Clabby, but reissued in Europe last year. She said that in hindsight, she wasn’t happy with its quality originally and took the opportunity to rerecord it, saying “When I recorded it in a bedroom and it was late at night, so I was afraid to sing. We were recording at 2 in the morning and I thought 'oh god, we’re going to wake the whole neighborhood', so I never thought I sang as well as I could and the recording and the sound were just awful. When things started to take off, I thought ‘I’d really love to rerecord that.’ I went into the studio and quickly redid the vocals and put it back out. I felt really relieved where I could fix it. It’s a better sound and better quality.”

Ulrich Drechsler Quartet & Tord Gustavsen (2006) -Humans & Places

Artist: Ulrich Drechsler Quartet & Tord Gustavsen
Album: Humans & Places
Released: 2006
Quality: lossless (FLAC + cue)
Size:334 MB

"Ulrich Drechsler asks and answers the question: how can the saddest music in the world be delivered with so much hope?
Gustavsen has now gained international recognition for his two ECM releases, Changing Places (2003) and The Ground (2005). His economy of playing, a kind of "less is more style, influences Drechsler's compositions and approach. Or probably it is more correct to state these two kindred spirits embody this sparse and beautiful presentation naturally.
The disc draws references to cinema. The music's ineffable sadness is reminiscent of Jim Jarmusch's Night On Earth vignette of a dark night in a Helsinki taxicab. Sure, Gustavsen is Norwegian, and that is probably like comparing White Sox fans to Cubs fans, but the darkness is evident. More importantly, the humanity within this darkness always shines throughout. For instance, the gentle melody of "Soulmates evokes Michael Legrand's "Windmills Of Your Mind, from the film The Thomas Crown Affair. The simple repetition of an emotional moment, coupled with the expressiveness of Drechsler's clarinet, is quite satisfying.
Whether it is the slow waltz or the ballad, this band remains tolerant of the mood, accommodating the measure of these compositions. Maybe patience is what's needed to turn very sad music into a redemptive experience." ~ Marc Corroto

Pink Martini (2007) -Live at Pioneer Center, Reno, Nevada

Artist: Pink Martini
Album: Live at Pioneer Center, Reno, Nevada, Sunday, July 8th, 2007
Released: 2007
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 260 MB

"The Pioneer Center is a small venue with wonderful sound. The recording was made from the fifth row just to the left of center stage. The audience was quiet and polite, which is good as the PA system was very low and several of the musicians were poorly mic'ed. I made a change to the gain settings during the first number once I realized how quiet things were.
The band played two hour-long sets and then signed autographs in the lobby.
The included artwork features photos taken at the signing and a copy of the signed program cover. Enjoy."~ Peanut_Butter

Grinderman (2010) -Grinderman 2

Artist: Grinderman
Album: Grinderman 2
Released: 2010
Quality: mp3 CBR 320 / FLAC (tracks)
Size: 97 / 302 MB

"Compared to their debut's howls of sexual frustration, this second offering from Nick Cave's Grinderman has moments of almost tender introspection, such as the eerie reminiscences of "What I Know", and bawdy humour, as in "Worm Tamer": "My baby calls me the Loch Ness Monster – two great big humps, and then I'm done".
But it's every bit as surreally malevolent, from the galloping hell-hound riff of "Mickey Mouse and the Goodbye Man" to the diseased itch of the concluding "Bellringer Blues". Along the way, "Palaces of Montezuma" blends shuffling gait and harmonies in "Sympathy for the Devil" fashion, while the haunting violin of "When My Baby Comes" tracks the course from "Madame George" to "Sister Ray". It's tremendous stuff." ~Andy Gill

Love (2001) -Forever Changes

Artist: Love
Album: Forever Changes
Released: 1967 (re-issue 2001)
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 179 MB

"One of rock's most overlooked masterpieces, this third album by the L.A. folk-rock outfit led by inscrutable singer-songwriter Arthur Lee sounds as fresh and innovative today as it did upon its original release in 1968. With David Angel's atmospheric string and horn arrangements giving the work a conceptual underpinning, Lee explores mainstream America's penchant for paranoia ("The Red Telephone") and violence ("A House Is Not a Motel") with songs that are as sonically subtle and lilting as they are lyrically blunt and harrowing. Add two gems by Love's secret weapon, second guitarist Bryan MacLean ("Alone Again Or" and "Old Man"), and you've got one of the truly perfect albums in rock history. Rhino's deluxe reissue serves up seven bonus tracks, including outtakes, alternates, and the "Your Mind and We Belong Together"/"Laughing Stock" single." ~Billy Altman

Album: Ghosts
Released: 2009
Quality: mp3 CBR 320
Size: 92 MB

"Tell your God to get ready for blood"...Whether your devotion is to doom or destiny, the Phantom of the Black Hills will take you into Death's Dominion, a world where banjo pickers moonlight as murderers and a wanton fiddler takes his hat off to no one. On the new album "Ghosts", each song is a roll of the bones, and it shows that devils do howl (while angels moan). From the first song "Confessions of a Barn-Burner" to the last "Roses on a Grave", "Ghosts" makes a music that brings with it a murderous implulse and a desire for revenge...so get your gun out first and get "Ghosts", a toxic moonshine cocktail of countryaggrothrashcowpunk and hear something that others cannot.
