”A treasure trove of female French pop from the 60s – packaged in a special case with a bonus male disc too! The 4CD package is a tremendous introduction to the hippest French pop sounds of the 60s – and goes way past the obvious stars of the time to include some cool girl singers who never got full exposure here on this side of the Atlantic. Some of the tracks on the set are versions of English-language hits, and others are original French numbers with a really hip, mod, go-go approach – very romping and groovy, with the sort of styles that are becoming the best-remembered from the time. ”The People's Temple don't sound so much like a garage-rock band circa 2011 as they do a garage-rock band circa 1966. They aren't just vaguely reminiscent of Love or the Seeds or Out of Our Heads-era Stones, they're practically the spitting image, scuzzy and scrappy and, most of all, urgent.
