Born in 2005 the Movie Star Junkies were originally a duo. Their main influences had always been the Birthday Party and the Gun Club and in the early years they start to play a couple of shows in Italy with just a drum and an organ. In 2006 a guitarist join the band for the recordings of the first 7 inch, recorded in a refrigerate cell with a 4 tracks and released the same year. After several compilations and gigs in France Croatia and U.K the trio put out a new 7 inch. In 2007 they record 5 songs in the same refrigerate cell and the italian label No-fi records releases them for a limited cassette series. In the same year another guitarist and a saxophone player join the band, and after the second european tour (in France Germany Belgium and Holland) the band is ready to record 10 new songs, 4 of them will be released the year after on a 10 inch split The feeling of love.In early 2008 the band is formed by 2 guitars 1 bass drums organ and voice, and starts to perform some acoustic shows too. . more info

The western rock, psych, funk and jazz influences that began to be incorporated into traditional Turkish sounds during the late 60s and 70s can be heard here, as the Anadolu pop sound of Turkeyma balanced these new elements with the complex sounds and rhythms developed over many years. Way back in the early seventies in London, three friends came together to play some unusual music: Sitarist Clem Alford, guitarist Jim Moyes and tabla player Keshav Sathe formed a unique Anglo/ Indian fusion, calling themselves Sargam (the name of a note in an Indian scale). They made one album under the name 'Sagram', mispelt by the Windmill recording company and inappropriately entitled Pop Explosion Sitar Style! This album was released without the band's permission, the ludicrous cover photograph bearing no relation to any band members or anything about them.
In 1971, soon after the release of "Sagram", the Sargam trio were offered another LP recording contract by Mushroom Records, with the proviso that they find a singer. Having met her when they were both at Chelsea School of Art, Jim Moyes contacted the singer Alisha Sufit. At the time Alisha was living in Islington, London, singing and writing songs for acoustic guitar and Appalachian dulcimer. Jim Moyes invited her to play and the four musicians soon renamed themselves Magic Carpet, forming a unique Anglo-Indian musical collaboration.
The band recorded the Magic Carpet album in the winter of 1971 - 1972 on the Mushroom Records label (MR 20). more info

Isaiah "Doc" Ross was a throwback to a bygone era; a true one-man band, he played harmonica, acoustic guitar, bass drum and high-hat simultaneously, creating a mighty racket harking back to the itinerant country-blues players wandering the Delta region during the earlier years of the 20th century. Born Charles Isaiah Ross on October 21, 1925 in Tunica, Mississippi, he took early inspiration from the music of Robert Johnson, Blind Boy Fuller and Sonny Boy Williamson I; primarily a harpist -- hence his nickname "The Harmonica Boss" -- he only added the other instruments in his arsenal in order to play a USO show while a member of the army during World War II. (The "Doc" moniker was acquired because he carried his harmonicas in a doctor's bag.) Upon his release from the military, Ross settled in Memphis, where he became a popular club fixture as well as the host of his own radio show on station WDIA; during his club residency he was witness to a number of brutal murders, however, and swore off appearances in such venues during the later years of his life. During the early 1950s, Ross recorded his first sides -- among them "Chicago Breakdown" -- for labels including Sun and Chess; in 1954 he settled in Flint, Michigan, where he went to work as a janitor for General Motors, a position he held until retiring. In 1965 he cut his first full-length LP, Call the Doctor, and that same year mounted his first European tour; as the years passed Ross performed live with decreasing frequency, however, and was infamous for backing out of shows to catch his beloved Detroit Tigers on television. Upon winning a Grammy for his 1981 album Rare Blues, he experienced a career resurgence, and played festival dates to great acclaim prior to his death on May 28, 1993. ~ Jason Ankeny, allmusic.com
